Для нас природно робити розрахунки в десятковій системі числення, або десятковій СЧ. Можливо, тому що людство починало з лічби на пальцях. Тож якби в нас було дев’ять пальців, як у Фродо з «Володаря перснів», для нас звичною була б дев’яткова система числення.

У десятковій системі кожне число записується за допомогою 10 символів, цифр — 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

🖥 Кількість цифр, які можуть використовуватися в кожному розряді числа, називається основою системи числення.
</p>
<p class="c-black pad-t-30">
Відповідно 8 цифр формують вісімкову систему числення, тобто систему числення з основою 8. Найбільша цифра такої системи — це 7. Трійкова система числення має три цифри: 0, 1, 2.

Коли вага цифри визначається її розташуванням у числі, тобто позицією у числі, така система числення називається позиційною. Так у нашій звичній десятковій системі числення дві зайняті цифрами позиції означають, що число може приймати значення від 10 до 99.

Але не всі системи працюють за цими правилами. Ти знаєш про римську систему числення, розберімося, чи є вона позиційною.

1 ми запишемо як І, але 3 вже позначимо як ІІІ, а 8 взагалі як VIII, тобто в нашій десятковій позиційній системі числення одиниці стоять на одній позиції, а в римській можуть приймати значення від 1 до 4. Отже, римська система числення не є позиційною.

Як перейти до звичного рахунку?

У початковій школі ми старанно записували число, розбиваючи його на одиниці, десятки, сотні і так далі. Наприклад:
